Abstract

This article aims to discuss a psychodramatic experience with an eight-year-old child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The study was developed in Aracaju, Sergipe state, Brazil, based on weekly psychotherapy sessions. The search for care was made by the child’s mother. After 19 months of follow-up, we observed that role playing and spontaneity training promoted improvements in social and communication skills. Since we have addressed only one experiment, care must be taken in generalizing these conclusions. We discussed the importance of further studies and the notion that it is also possible to take care of ASD from a psychodramatic perspective, in which the objective is not to “normalize,” but to promote health in relation, with creativity, sensitivity and encounter.
